Welcome to Donna Harris Art!

I am a watercolor artist, having discovered the joy of painting after a career as a Director of Children’s Ministry. My husband and I live in Matthews, NC and we have two adult children and four grandchildren.

Although not limited to, most of my work is custom hand painted watercolor pet portraits. Pets have always held a special place in my heart, having had a beloved Golden Retriever for 14 years and a few “grand-dogs” as well!

Each one of my custom pet portraits is unique and one of kind. I strive to capture the special quality that is unique to your pet by using watercolor washes to create texture and dimension. I work primarily from photographs in order to capture a special gaze or tilt of the head. The eyes are the heart of the painting. Before I begin painting a portrait of a furry friend, I always ask for the name of the pet, which adds a special connection for me as I paint.

A pet portrait is quite possibly the best gift a pet-lover will receive. I am often asked to paint a memorial portrait, which is a special way to bring smiles and memories for years to come.
